Abstract

An atlas is a collection of maps representing the world as a whole, parts of the world or particular states. Apart from the area covered by maps, they also differ according to size, types of maps (geographical or thematic), purpose etc. This article presents a review of the most important international world atlases, as well as the most important atlases published in Croatia, among which publications by the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography have a significant role.
