It is well known that Greek language and culture had a great impact on Roman culture and literature in the Latin language. However, the influence of the Latin language on Greek has drawn less attention, particularly when it comes to loanwords. The goal of this paper is to show the difficulties and certain unfounded claims in the course of analysis of Latinisms observed during the research on the Etymological Dictionary of Modern Greek by linguist and lexicographer Nikolaos Andriotis.
